The Food and Drug Administration announced Monday that it has placed a cap on prescription medications for the treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, a joint disease caused by the disease. The move is a move to prevent more prescriptions from going up in price.
The FDA has ordered the drug Advil and Celebrex, which contain the arthritis pain reliever Celebrex, to be filled at a discount price. The discount price, however, would be at the $7.99 per month, or one-quarter, of the cost of a year supply.
The move follows a recent in December where the FDA announced a ban on the sale of prescription drugs that contain the arthritis drug Bextra, which is used to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
The FDA is also advising consumers that they should not be put on any medication that contains a substance that blocks the action of the enzyme that breaks down hormones in the body.
Advil, Bextra, and Celebrex are used to treat pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Celebrex is also used to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and provides pain relief.
The agency said it is also working to address the increased demand for Celebrex because of the increased cost of Celebrex.
